    Frequently asked questions

In addition to a play on my initials, “full stop” is the period at the end of a sentence. A clear and fixed point from which to signal my start as a freelancer. The pencil featured in my logo essentially marks this exact point, not just as a punctuation mark, but as a point of reference for my days and my work.

Translation agencies are large companies with many departments: sales, marketing, administration, project management, page layout, in addition to translation. While they do offer a wide range of services, you can generally expect longer turnaround times and higher rates. The advantage of choosing an independent professional is that you receive a bespoke service from A to Z, without intermediaries.

Is your product launch or a competition deadline right around the corner and you still haven’t had any of the documentation translated? No problem! Tell me the latest deadline to receive the translation. I will confirm whether it is feasible, and if the material is too much for me to handle on my own, I will put together a team of professionals who can help me meet your needs.

Using the software I have available, I can manage a range of formats, even complex ones, without having to modify the original structure of the files. In this way, you will receive your translated files in the same layout as the original. I can process the following formats: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, XML, InDesign (.idml) and many others. I can also provide support with translating and reformatting PDF files.

An interpreter orally transposes the words expressed in one language into another. This can be done simultaneously (as the person is speaking) or consecutively (after the person has spoken) and requires a skill set different to that of a translator (who deals with written texts). Do you need an interpreter for an event or conference? I can provide you the names of esteemed colleagues who offer interpreting services.

I am not an agency; I am a freelancer. However, I do not work alone. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with many valid professionals, to whom I can outsource tasks that do not fall into my specializations and that enable me to offer my clients 360° language services.

Turnaround times for a specialist translation depend on the nature, length and complexity of the text. There is no universal formula. However, once I have properly analyzed the documents I can more accurately provide a delivery timeframe so that you can then plan the next stages of your project.

To guarantee maximum quality, I translate exclusively into my native language — Italian. However, my team of collaborators includes English mother-tongue translators (UK and US English) as well as translators with other language combinations. I can also manage multilingual translation projects.

Do you need a sworn translation, legalization or apostille? I am not registered in the Roll of Technical Consultants of the Court so I cannot handle this personally. However, I can count on my team of collaborators for this service as well. In this case, stamp duty costs will be added to the translation/revision rate and swearing/legalization service fee.

In recent years, machine translations have become increasingly common. While it is a fast and practical tool, the quality level is not yet up to par. Machine translations can be helpful in understanding the general meaning of a text, but prove unsuitable for professional use since they are often riddled with grammatical and terminological errors and lack in style. For this reason, a human translator in flesh and bone is still the best option.
